This is a classic yacht that sails on the Cantabrian Sea as if it were a 100 years ago.

Lucretia is an emblematic Dutch yacht constructed in 1927, designed by the prestigious naval architect, G. De Vries Lentsch Jr. Its fine lines make it into a unique craft – elegant, full of history and style. It gives its passengers an unforgettable experience and is one of the oldest active yachts in our waters. It has an overall length is 19.3 metres and has a rigged sail surface of 180m2 – Bermudian Ketch. Its history:

This boat was constructed after the First World War at the request of a man whose daughter was suffering from a respiratory illness. Her doctors had advised her to breathe sea air and so it was named Lucretia after her.

Years later it belonged to a prestigious rector of Oxford University and ploughed European waters. During this time, it received a certificate from the Lloyd’s Register and participated in several Fastnet Races as well as other regattas.

It later fell into the hands of a Russian multimillionaire and was used for recreation until one day it was abandoned in a shipyard near Lisbon in Portugal. After a prolonged sad stay there, a French family bought it and refitted her with the goal of crossing the Atlantic and sailing around the Caribbean Sea in a historic boat.

After 12 years in their hands it sailed back to European waters a little worse for wear and an uncertain future. When the founders of Ostarte Sailing sighted the arrival of this amazing yacht in the opening of the port of Pasajes they immediately appreciated the great architectural and historic value that was hidden under its tired exterior.

After a long nine months of hard work that the inspection, refitting, and replacement of outworn parts took, Ostarte finally brought the craft back to life. The splendour was returned to this jewel of maritime heritage and it was now fit for the open sea, becoming one of the oldest active working boats on the Cantabrian Sea. With hopes of being able to celebrate its centenary, we invite all those who would like to sail in her to write another chapter in this romantic project.

The Tanit is a very special craft, constructed in Tunis in 1961 at the request of the mythical French adventurer and writer Henry De Monfried. He and the Tanit sailed together around the world and tackled Cape Horn against the prevailing winds. This an agile yacht, bright and seaworthy that has recently been completely restored. Constructed with fine woods such as Acacia and African Iroko it has an overall length of 10.85 metres and is Yawl rigged.

Its history:

The Tanit was constructed in Tunis in 1961 at the request of the adventurer and French writer Henry de Monfreid. Named after the Goddess of the Moon it was built without any formal plans, just some freehand drawings, following the instructions that Monfreid gave after having acquired the necessary knowledge over the course of his innumerable adventures along the coasts of the Red Sea, The Horn of Africa and the Arabian peninsula and off the coast of Yemen. The Tanit was his last boat before he passed away and he used it for trips of a more recreational nature than his previous craft, and for activities, among others, like pearl smuggling. It was used for the writer`s final sailing voyage, the most notable feat of which was rounding Cape Horn.

After the death of Monfreid, the Tanit travelled around the Mediterranean Sea with different owners, until at the end of the 90s it was donated, by Italy, to the French Association “Les amis de jeudi dimanche” founded by Michel Jauen, whose goal was to reinsert problem youths back into society through sailing.

In 2018 Ostarte Sailing sailed the Tanit for the first time off the coast of Brittany. Finally, in May 2019 it sailed to Pasajes with the aim of getting a complete refit and to give it a new lease of life. After months of hard work and much affection, the Tanit once again shone brightly, becoming what it had always been, an agile seafaring yacht that was ready to share in our passion for classic boats and traditional sailing.
